In the manor house, half-hidden in a drawing room that smelled of beeswax and old roses, stood a screen. Silk-upholstered, deeply aged, its surface holding two centuries of afternoon light. The damask was traditional — the kind of pattern woven into the fabric of grand houses, of formal dinners and long winters and rooms that knew how to keep a secret. But look closer, and something else surfaced. A second design, tonal, ghosted beneath the first. Shadow speaking to shadow. Pattern inside pattern.

Rooted in the long tradition of woven damasks — in the silk merchant ships and the great house interiors and the hands that stretched cloth over gilded frames — but interpreted here with a painter's eye and a deep appreciation for what happens when restraint and richness share the same surface.
